AKA: Mariah, Freshwater Cod, Eel pout, Poor Man's Lobster.

This is one very underrated fish caught in many of Canada's freshwater lakes. The taste and texture is comparable to monkfish or lobster, hence "Poor Man's Lobster".

This is a super simple recipe!

To make the batter:

2 Cups All Purpose Flour

1 Cup to Dredge the Fish

1 Cup to Mix in the Batter

1 Tablespoon Garlic Powder

1 Egg Beaten

1 Teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

1 Can of Beer 

Optional:

Salt and/or herbs to adjust to your taste.

Deep Fry @ 360 degrees for approx. 4-5 minutes

Drain on absorbent paper

Pair with your favourite fresh fries!

A little tartar sauce and some coleslaw!
